I am fundraising to start a program to teach video use/editing to at risk groups to be able to document human rights abuses in Honduras. My goal is to work on empowering projects and also share my 100+ hours of footage since the coup detat.

The money you donate will go towards media empowerment with 'at risk groups' to train interested people how to document their own struggles. Honduras is a beautiful country, similar to most of Central and South America where the divisions between the rich and the poor are extreme. The coup detat of June 28 brought to light some of the injustices that have already existed for decades, but also reignited social movements and increased human rights violations from those who risk to loose as a result.

I might have been able to predict that my convictions to social & environmental justice would have brought myself to independent reporting, but beginning in a career in environmental engineering in Latin America, I could not help but become a witness to the coup detat and subsequent human rights abuses. While the short term goal is to share the footage I have taken over the last seven months, I am also working on media training and empowerment so more disenfranchised, at risk, and marginalized groups can tell their own stories.

Technology is becoming more accessible and there should be no reason people in Latin America cannot be trained to document their own reality. I would like to reach out to organizations such as WITNESS and the camera manufacturers directly to empower people to document human rights abuses and environmental degradation in their own communities. This is both a short term and long term project that addresses community/youth empowerment, technology training, independent journalism, and of course, keeping a person like me dreaming that another world is possible. I will be working alongside the five human rights organizations to make this program a reality.

Thank you for your support and I sincerely hope I have won your hearts over to support me in this endeavor!   All my respect and love.
