Dean Cochrane, aka Mr Giggles (because he won't stop laughing) was born in Hartford, Connecticut lives in the village of Shotts, Lanarkshire in Scotland. He is a British-American citizen.
He was born with a condition called Quadraplegic Cerebral Palsy and this confines him to a wheelchair. He can't move his legs or right arm, but does have a limited amount of control over his head and left arm.
Two years ago, after raising £18,000 Dean was able to travel with his mother and father to a special clinic named Therapies4kids in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. This greatily helped Dean and the intensive physiotherapy released his left arm.
Now the family are looking to raise £15,000 for another trip to Therapies4kids in the hope that it will benefit Dean further.
Tommy, Dean's father, approached his local newspaper the Wishaw Press to tell them about his new target. The story was handed to multimedia reporter Richard Mooney (23) who, after being deeply touched by Dean's story, arranged to tie in a planned bungee jump with his cousin and co-fundraiser Keith O' Hanlon (16) in an effort to raise funds for Mr.Giggles.
They have set their initial target for around $250 (around 150 pounds) but are hoping to raise more than this.
The bungee jump takes place on 21st February 2010 at Braehead in Glasgow. Richard and Keith will jump from 170ft crane platform and are hoping it will be both a very successful fundraiser and an unforgettable experience. Oh yes, and that they don't go splat....
